Buxton Inn
The Buxton Inn of Granville, Ohio, was built in 1812 by Orrin Granger, founder of the city. The building, originally a stage coach stop and post office, was known as The Tavern, the local watering hole. The Buxton Inn, named after Major Buxton who operated the inn with his wife from 1865 to 1905, remains Ohio’s oldest operating inn. After encouragement by Granville preservationist, Robbins Hunter, Orville and Audrey Orr purchased Buxton Inn from Ms. Schoeller in 1972 and they continue to manage the inn today. Two years of restoration lead to the opening of the restaurant on Friday, 13 September 1974. October of the same year saw five newly renovated guest rooms open. Through time, the Orrs have purchased four separated buildings within the vicinity of the Inn, bringing the total number of guest rooms to 25, with four of rooms in the main building..
