I visited this prison in October of 2001. I heard many accounts of suppossed paranormal activity there and decided to see for myself by going on one of the "Ghost Hunt Tours" sposored by the Mansfield Reformatory Preservation Society. Though I never encountered anything strange, many of the other participants reported hearing cell doors shut, or smelling perfume, or sensing something unusual. The experience was worth the $50 just to see something so mammoth and famous. No ghosts but a lot of fun and something I would recommend to others.

This picture is looking down one of the tiers of the cell block (east or west I don't remember). It looks this delapidated all over the prison. Because of the flaking paint and disrepair, the prison has a very erie feeling.

This picture was taken in the "Hole" in solitary confinement. This is supposed to be the area with the most activity. So many people were there all night I don't see how anything could have been remotely spooky. Only at about 4:30 a.m. did the prison finally clear out and we were there alone. We turned off our lights and took pictures and video footage, but nothing happened. Being there alone was a bit more spooky.
